Week 1’s in the books, and it’s the Panthers and Bruins setting the pace early. Montreal’s holding their own, Toronto’s splitting the difference, and out West it’s still anyone’s guess. There’s already plenty of buzz — and it’s only Week 2.
Re: Opening Week
Pavel Dorofeyev, Shane Pinto and Sergei Bobrovsky have been named the NHL’s “Three Stars” the week ending Oct. 12.

And again, a gentle reminder that this is not the whole schedule. If that were the case I’d just be regurgitating the content from NHL.com and that’s really not why we’re here. So, let’s move on.
Monday Night Matchups
In my heart of hearts I just can’t bring myself to cheer for the Leafs, I really want to want to, but …. it’s like going back to a bad relationship. I’m unapologetically here for the Panthers.
- Maple Leafs at Panthers (7 PM ET)
Toronto meets a red-hot Florida squad that hasn’t lost yet. The Leafs will have to dig deep to cool off Marchand and company. - Jets at Blues (8 PM ET)
Winnipeg’s first road test of the week — St. Louis is physical and disciplined, and the Jets will need their speed to break through.
Tuesday on the Ice
Both of these teams have good things to offer, however neither one of them gets me too excited.
- Penguins at Flames (9 PM ET)
Crosby versus Huberdeau — two vets trying to lead teams still figuring out their rhythm. Flames fans will be hoping for a statement game at home.
Wednesday’s Highlights
I am a Habs fan, there is no denying it. I grew up watching them and cheering for them with my Dad, and well, there’s something about that that I am just not willing to ever let go of. Also, the Red Wings are probably the only Detroit team I don’t really like.
- Canadiens at Red Wings (7 PM ET)
Montreal’s young lineup continues to impress, and Detroit’s hungry to keep up. Could be one of the more entertaining midweek tilts. - Golden Knights at Avalanche (9:30 PM ET)
Vegas brings their flash to Denver for a clash that could easily be a playoff preview.
Thursday Night Focus
The Edmonton Oilers are such a great team. Maybe this is their year?
- Panthers at Devils (7 PM ET)
Florida’s off to a perfect start, but New Jersey’s offense is built to spoil streaks. - Oilers at Wild (8 PM ET)
Edmonton’s chasing consistency. McDavid magic can only do so much if the defense doesn’t hold.
Friday Night Energy
Ok, who named the Ducks. I mean, really?
- Bruins at Predators (8 PM ET)
Boston’s perfect record meets Nashville’s grit. Could be closer than it looks on paper. - Canucks at Ducks (10 PM ET)
Vancouver’s looking strong early — this is a prime chance to bank some points.
Saturday = Hockey Night in Canada
Who doesn’t love Hockey Night in Canada? Even if it’s in the US? I have no beef with our neighbours to the South. We’d just like the cup back.
- Capitals at Maple Leafs (7 PM ET)
Ovi in Toronto is always a show. Expect highlight goals and at least one defensive breakdown to make Leafs Twitter implode. - Jets at Predators (8 PM ET)
Winnipeg’s back in action, and if they keep the pace up, Nashville might be in for a long night. - Oilers at Flames (10 PM ET)
Battle of Alberta, round one. Never calm, never predictable, always worth staying up for.
Sunday Wrap-Up
Ok, I might not be a seasoned sports writer, but for those that are, how do they write about the Ducks and still take their job seriously? I can’t stop calling them the might ducks. And I’m not even really sure that I’m not supposed to.
- Bruins at Ducks (8 PM ET)
Boston closes their week against a rebuilding Anaheim team — a chance to stay unbeaten and flex a little. - Canucks at Sharks (10 PM ET)
Vancouver’s final stop of the week — perfect late-night hockey to wrap the weekend.
💡 Closer: That’s Week 2 in the NHL — the Panthers are flying, the Bruins are unbeatable (so far), and the Battle of Alberta is just getting started. Buckle up, hockey fans — the season’s already heating up.
