🏈 NFL Week 1 Recap & Week 2 Preview: Minus Spit-gate
The NFL season is finally back, and Week 1 gave us plenty to talk about. From international upsets to defensive debuts, QB controversies to fan antics, there was no shortage of storylines. And yes, before you ask — we are not doing a blow-by-blow of Eagles–Cowboys and the sideline drama now known as Spit-gate. Call it what you want, but here at Lady Sports Fans we’re keeping this a Spit-gate-free zone. Time to focus on the football.
🌍 Chiefs vs. Chargers in Brazil
The NFL’s international opener in São Paulo was supposed to be a celebration of global football. Instead, it turned into a 27–21 Chargers upset over the Chiefs. Kansas City looked out of rhythm, the turf drew complaints, and Patrick Mahomes never found his usual late-game magic.
All those “we’d play in the parking lot” quotes from Andy Reid sounded a little hollow as KC struggled to adjust. The Chargers, meanwhile, looked energized by the stage, making an early case that the AFC West might not be a one-team show this year. But truth be told, I’d still never bet against them.
🧀 Parsons Powers Packers
It still feels weird to write it: Micah Parsons, Green Bay Packer. Dallas fans are still grieving, but in Wisconsin he wasted no time making his presence known. A sack, a QB hit, and an attitude that screamed “new era.”
I don’t know at this point if the win against the Lions says more about the Packers or the Lions. Guess week 2 will give us some more insight when we see the Packers go head to head with the Commanders ( who played very well in week 1) and the Lions match up with the Bears.
🐅 Bengals Curse Watch
It’s becoming a cliché, but here we are again: the Bengals stumbled out of the gate. Even with Joe Burrow healthy, Cincinnati looked sluggish and inconsistent against Cleveland.
The good news? The week 1 curse has been broken as they did pull of a win against the Browns.
🏈 Steelers Hold Off Jets
The Steelers played to type — physical, gritty, and just good enough to hold off the Jets. Pittsburgh’s defense swarmed, the offense managed, and the black-and-gold faithful went home happy.
But let’s talk about Aaron Rodgers. He remains one of the most polarizing figures in football, and plenty of people love to hate him. But separate the noise from the performance: Rodgers is still one of the league’s most elite athletes. At 41, he makes completions, and he does it with calm, almost surgical precision.
You don’t have to love him, but you do have to respect his uncompromising commitment to his convictions. Rodgers doesn’t bend, and that authenticity — for better or worse — makes him endlessly compelling.
🦬 Bills vs. Ravens: Fans Felt This One
The Bills and Ravens clashed in one of Week 1’s most physical games, and it wasn’t just the players making headlines. Some Bills fans bailed early when it looked like Buffalo was finished — only to miss a frantic late push. No judgment, but it was definitely a “bet you wish you hadn’t” moment.
Then came the viral clip: a Bills fan hitting at DeAndre Hopkins and Lamar Jackson after a sideline play. Let’s just say he f***** around and found out fast. Lamar gave it right back, cool but fiery, reminding everyone that trash talk doesn’t rattle him — it fuels him.
The takeaway? The AFC is going to be brutal.
🔮 NFL Week 2 Preview: What to Watch
Week 1 gave us surprises. Week 2 looks like it’s setting up rivalries, redemption arcs, and some must-watch QB duels.
🏹 Chiefs @ Eagles
After stumbling in Brazil, Kansas City walks straight into a test in Philly. Mahomes and Kelce can’t afford another sluggish start. The Eagles looked sharp in Week 1, and Arrowhead pride will be on the line.
🦁 Lions vs. Bears
Forget Lambeau — Week 2 puts Detroit at home against Chicago. The Bears are rebuilding, the Lions are roaring, and this feels like the kind of game Detroit has to win if they want to control the North.
⚒ Steelers vs. Seahawks
Pittsburgh gritted out a win in Week 1, but Seattle’s athleticism will test them in ways the Jets didn’t. Expect the Steelers’ defense to chase Geno Smith all day while Kenny Pickett (or whoever gets the nod) tries to settle in.
🪖 Commanders vs. Giants
Jayden Daniels looked promising in his first outing, while the Giants are already in QB chaos. If Washington is going to make noise this season, this is the kind of game they need to take control of.
☠ Raiders @ Patriots
Foxborough hasn’t been friendly to many teams, but the Raiders have a chance to catch the Patriots flat. It’s a tone-setter for a Vegas squad that can’t afford to drift in the AFC West.
🎯 Evie’s Picks – Week 2
- Chiefs @ Eagles → Chiefs 🏹
Kansas City bounces back after the Brazil stumble. Mahomes doesn’t stay flat two weeks in a row. - Lions vs. Bears → Lions 🦁
Detroit defends their den. The Bears are still finding themselves, and this is where the Lions prove they’re contenders. - Steelers vs. Seahawks → Steelers ⚒
Pittsburgh’s defense feasts on Geno Smith. Ugly game, but the Steelers know how to win those. - Commanders vs. Giants → Commanders 🪖
Washington takes advantage of New York’s QB chaos. Jayden Daniels gives Commanders fans something to cheer about. - Raiders @ Patriots → Raiders ☠
Vegas sneaks one out in Foxborough. It won’t be pretty, but a win’s a win.
✨ Final Thoughts
The NFL Week 1 recap gave us everything: upsets abroad, new stars in old places, quarterback drama, gritty wins, and fans making headlines as much as players.
As we shift to the NFL Week 2 preview, the storylines only get sharper. Can the Chiefs bounce back? Can the Giants hold it together? Will the Packers keep rolling behind Parsons?
Whatever happens, we promise you this: we’ll keep talking football, we’ll keep giving you Evie’s Picks, and we’ll keep this space free of endless Spit-gate analysis. Onward to Week 2.
