The CFL has dropped some big rule changes — shorter field, modified rouge, new clock rules — and yes, people are grumbling. Traditions are being challenged, fans are nostalgic, and some players aren’t shy about saying they’re frustrated. But here’s the thing: these tweaks don’t derail the love for Canadian football. We’ll still tune in. We’ll still cheer. We’ll still care. Because football’s bigger than rules. The game evolves, and so do we.
This week, we’re breaking down the biggest takeaways from Week 16, looking ahead to the can’t-miss matchups in Week 17, and — of course — locking in my picks. Spoiler alert: it’s getting harder to bet against Hamilton, and I’m not ready to give up on Winnipeg just yet. But let’s focus: CFL Week 16 Roundup & Week 17 Look Ahead
🏈 CFL Week 16 Roundup
Alouettes vs. Argonauts
Montreal came in red hot, and Toronto just couldn’t put away a team with momentum. The game leaned the way of a squad riding confidence, and the Als showed up ready.
Lions vs. Stampeders
This one wasn’t close. BC rolled into Calgary and absolutely dominated, hanging 50+ on the Stamps. Vernon Adams Jr. looked unstoppable, and the Lions reminded everyone they’re still a West powerhouse. For a team like the Stamps that came out swinging, they sure didn’t look like they came out at all this week.
Blue Bombers vs. Redblacks
Winnipeg needed a spark and delivered enough to get past Ottawa, though it wasn’t pretty. Redblacks still inching, still hoping to upset the status quo. But again, this reaffirms that Ottawa can not be trusted.
Elks vs. Tiger-Cats
Hamilton flexed once again. Edmonton kept fighting, but the momentum’s shifted. The Ticats are now making a statement. And it’s an awesome statement.

Stampeders @ 🪽 Alouettes — Friday, Sept 26
Montreal’s offence has been electric lately, and they get to test it at home against a Calgary team that just got lit up by BC. The Stamps will want to bounce back fast, but the Als smell opportunity.
Argonauts @ 🦁 Lions — Friday, Sept 26
Toronto’s season is teetering, while BC just proved they can hang 50+ on anyone. If the Lions keep that same energy, the Argos could be in for a long night.
Tiger-Cats @ 💣 Blue Bombers — Saturday, Sept 27
The Ticats are hot, but Winnipeg is fighting to prove they’re still contenders. Expect a bruising, high-stakes battle — one that feels like a playoff preview.
Roughriders @ 🛡️ Elks — Saturday, Sept 27
Saskatchewan has been steady all season, and Edmonton not so much.
🎯 Evie’s Picks – Week 17
Alouettes over Stampeders — Montreal’s got the heat, Calgary’s given me nothing lately.
Lions over Argonauts — BC is on fire, and Toronto can’t keep up.
Tiger-Cats over Blue Bombers — Hamilton for the big W. They look like the team to beat.
Roughriders over Elks — Riders are going to destroy Edmonton. Simple as that.
📊 Record so far: After Week 16: 36–26
